National Media Awards 2009

Published July 14th, 2009 in Other Issues

Recently Nick Webb and I were named Journalists of the Year at the National Media Awards for our investigation into activities at the state agency FAS.

For many years I strove to subject FÁS, the jobs creation agency with the €1 billion a year (€20m a week )  budget, to political scrutiny. The political parties resisted. At long last our efforts came to fruition in late November when we unearthed staggering facts about the expenses incurred by the top people at FAS. The Chief Executive, Rody Molloy, resigned two days later.
Nick and I were also honoured to be named joint winners of the Business Journalist of the Year award.

The awards ceremony was held in the Dining Hall in Trinity on June 24th.
