I placed the following motion on the Seanad Order Paper:
“That Seanad Éireann calls on the Government to take urgent measures to open the West Link Toll Bridge on Dublin’s M50 motorway”
This is due for debate shortly.

Published December 14th, 2004 in Transport, Westlink Bridge and M50It’s clear that tolls on the M50 are clogging the entire ring-road and defeating its purpose as a fast alternative to driving through Dublin city. Radical action is required.
It is disgusting that the toll charge on the M50 is being raised from €1.50 to €1.80. It is important that we realise that West Link bridge was put in place many years ago to alleviate the traffic problem, but it is now contributing to it in a major way. It is absurd that commuters, cars, and other vehicles are being charged by the company in question to use it. While it makes considerable money not only for the State but for individuals, in so doing it also obstructs traffic. This is a complete and utter absurdity. Political Interference is Causing the Problems at Aer Lingus

For a company that is earning more than €100 million per year and with prospective earnings of similar amounts next year, it is difficult to paint it as being in a critical situation. Budget 2005: A Calculated Repositioning of the Goverenment
Published December 1st, 2004 in EconomyOnly an idiot or someone who has a political axe to grind could oppose this budget. It is obviously a deliberate, calculated and perhaps humane effort to reposition the Government by giving away money. Luckily for Fianna Fáil, the Government is in a position to do so.
The only quibble with the budget is where the money was given because no one can say he disapproves of what the Government did for people with disabilities or old age pensioners. All of these things are laudable and any of the people who opposed this budget would die to be able to do what the Government did today. That is the truth.
