On Thursday September 24th,  I was delighted to take a break from FAS , Nama,  the banks and  the turmoil around Leinster House to act as best man at Eamon Dunphy and Jane Gogan’s wedding. Above is a photograph of a lighter moment outside the church.


Generation says Yes to Lisbon

There were just 10 days to go until Lisbon. And where was Taoiseach Brian Cowen?

Out in New York at a climate change conference. All the Cowen body language from the United Nations suggests that he was bored rigid listening to the green brigade.

Today there is less than one week to go until Lisbon. And where is European Affairs Minister Dick Roche? Off the prime-time airwaves, big into late-night programmes.

Good thinking by the handlers in Merrion Street. If the Government is to win the Lisbon vote they will need to keep their human liabilities buried in the background. If the ‘Yes’ campaigners can confine the Taoiseach to Tullamore and Dick to Bray or Brussels, they have a sporting chance of success.

Mistress of Inaction on Fas

There is nothing urgent about the overspending in Fas. It’s all in a day’s work. Ask the Tanaiste.

A damning report about Fas has been sitting in Mary Coughlan’s department since June 12. She had three months to lay it in the Dail library. She just beat the deadline last Thursday. The squalid state agency ended up with three months’ breathing space.

Puffer’s paradise named Nama

Last Monday, Brian Lenihan led a team of Nama zealots into a committee room in the bowels of Leinster House.

TDs and senators assembled to challenge the minister on the details of his plan to buy all those nasty assets from the banks.
