Here in the uk the government wants everyone to have high speed internet access through a designated dsl carrier. This can only be a good thing to allow everyone Internet access. Some debate as who is to pay. Perhaps the Internet Service Providers can pay for those who cannot afford it.

I’m 3 miles from two towns in east galway and I can’t get broadband. I have phoned eircom several times over the last 4 years just to be told that the exchange is to go live in the next quarter… still waiting for it to happen. Even then their is no guarantee I will be able to get it. I’m paying rent for an office several miles away from my house just because I can’t get broadband. Something has got to give in this situation.

Fantastic book. As a former AIB banker it is embarrassing to read how standards, never the greatest, have slipped so far. But where were the regulators in a situation where the banks’ balance sheets were ballooning out of control? And what of the international banks who seemed happy to continue to lend ever greater amounts to the Irish banks? What a mess!
